For Moritz Lampert, General Manager at Golf Club St Leon-Rot, excellence is not reserved for special occasions. It is an everyday expectation.

“Our idea is to give a truly outstanding experience for every member and guest,” Moritz said. “Every time you come here, it should feel like a holiday. It doesn’t matter if it’s a Monday morning or a Friday night – the level should always be the same.”

Lampert’s connection to the club runs deep. A member since its founding year in 1997 and a former professional golfer, his relationship with St Leon-Rot is both professional and deeply personal. “I’ve worked here for two and a half years now, but emotionally I’ve been part of this place for much longer,” he said.

Operating in the German golf market brings its own challenges. “In Germany, price often wins. Customer excellence isn’t always the top priority across the market,” Moritz said. “But our product is different. Here, service matters – and that’s where 59club has been a strong partner.”

“I see the club through my own lens, but the objective feedback from 59club is crucial. It makes conversations with staff easier and more constructive because we’re working from facts, not opinions.”

Through mystery shopping, surveys and targeted training days, 59club provides Golf Club St Leon-Rot with objective insight into the full guest journey – from the first phone call to dinner after a round of golf.

“I see the club through my own lens,” said Moritz. “But the objective feedback from 59club is crucial. It makes conversations with staff easier and more constructive because we’re working from facts, not opinions.”

One of the clearest success stories came after a complete restructuring of the club’s pro shop in early 2024. New staff, a new retail concept and a new approach were introduced – and validated through mystery shopping data.

“Today we’re scoring close to 90 per cent across all pro shop categories,” Moritz said. “That data gives me real ammunition when explaining why changes were necessary – both to staff and members.”

Exposure to the wider 59club network has also been eye-opening. Attending the 59club Global Awards at The Belfry highlighted just where German golf is – and how much further there is to go on a global stage.

Looking ahead to 2026, Moritz sees digital development as the next frontier, including automated reservations and confirmations, which are still uncommon in Germany. “That’s where we need feedback, adjustment and support,” he said.

For Sebastian Czyz Bendsen, General Manager at 59club Nordic, the partnership is about long-term cultural development. “Real improvement happens when teams take responsibility and are willing to look in the mirror,” he said. “With the data in place, it’s about mindset, ownership and moving forward together.”

At Golf Club St. Leon-Rot, tradition, ambition and objective insight come together – proving that even the most established clubs can continue to evolve.
